The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 18.51 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2023. The updated sales figures for the open world title were announced by Nintendo during its recent quarterly earnings briefing. Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million units within three days of release, and clearly, has continued to sell at an impressive rate in the weeks since then.

According to Nintendo, Tears of the Kingdom constitute roughly half of all first party software sales for the company during Q1 of the current fiscal year (April-June), with those who have previously played its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, being the “primary driver” for sale. However, Ninendo says that in the weeks following launch, “a growing percentage of purchases are being made by consumers who have not yet played” the 2017 game.

Interestingly, Tears of the Kingdom has also instantly become the ninth highest-selling first party Switch game to date, sitting just behind Super Mario Party with a gap of less than a million units. Considering that it’s a recent release, it’s likely to keep on climbing higher in that list, though whether it will manage to surpass the lifetime sales of Breath of the Wild – which now sits at over 30 million units sold – remains to be seen.

In our review of Tears of the Kingdom, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Tears of the Kingdom ups the ante on its predecessor, and follows up on one of the greatest games ever made by exceeding it in every possible regard to a thorough, comprehensive degree. If you are a fan of the medium, you owe it to yourself to play this game.” Read the full review through here.

Nintendo has also announced that the Switch has sold over 129.5 million units worldwide.
