The Last of Us Part 2 Multiplayer To Reportedly Have Character Customization, In-Game Store

A recent job listing seems to hint at multiplayer details for Naughty Dog's upcoming sequel.

While the single player narrative is obviously the main draw in any game made by Naughty Dog, especially The Last of Us, they usually come with multiplayer components as well. And though these are more ancillary content than the centre of the show, there’s no denying that they’re usually also surprisingly good, as was the case in the first The Last of Us title as well. As such, there’s a fair bit of curiosity surrounding what the upcoming The Last of Us Part 2 will have in store for us with its online offerings.

And a new job ad for a Multiplayer Server Programmer on Naughty Dog’s official website may have clued us into a few details. More specifically, it looks like the multiplayer component in The Last of Us Part 2 will allow players to customize their characters, while the job ad also makes mention of an in-game store where players can purchase more customizations for their characters as well. Though there’s obviously no explicit mention of it, that, of course, sounds like microtransactions (which also isn’t all that surprising for any game with a competitive online side).

“We are looking for a server programmer who loves constructing a scalable, stable, and secure ecosystem of services for players to enjoy,” reads the job ad. “You will usher them through the entire multiplayer experience, from first login, through matchmaking, and then granting rewards players can use to customize their characters in the store. As one of the caretakers of the live environment, you will be a critical part of the team that launches the game’s services.”

The Last of Us Part 2 is slated for an exclusive PS4 launch, but other than some rumours here and there, there has been no indication of when exactly it might come out. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.
