Tekken 8 Developer Addresses Unauthorized Closed Test Access by Players

"Such actions breach the terms of service and the Tekken World Tour Code of Conduct," reminds the developer and Bandai Namco Esports Team.

Tekken 8

Bandai Namco’s closed network test for Tekken 8 went live for PS5 players on July 21st and eventually for all platforms on July 28th. Unfortunately, some players have been able to play beyond the extended test period and even used Cheat Engine to datamine potentially unrevealed characters.

As you might imagine, neither the development team nor Bandai Namco took kindly to this. The Bandai Namco Esports Team reminded players, “Such actions breach the terms of service and the Tekken World Tour Code of Conduct. Also, the unauthorized download or distribution of the game is illegal.

“Please note that any player found to have accessed the Closed Network Test without authorization may be deemed ineligible for the upcoming Tekken World Tour and other official tournaments.” While datamining possible future characters isn’t cool, ensuring that no one retains closed network test access while it’s offline is also important.

It ensures everyone has a level playing field when partaking in upcoming esports tournaments. If some players can practice more than others, thanks to unauthorized access, it would create an unfair advantage.

Tekken 8 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Bandai Namco hasn’t announced a release date, but it will be out before April 2024. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
