Leading up to the PS5 release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Bethesda and developer MachineGames have released a new video that gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how the game was developed. The latest video focuses on voice actor Troy Baker, who plays the role of protagonist Indiana Jones in the game.

“Every kid running around in their backyards always wanted to be Indiana Jones,” said Baker in the video, talking about the first time he said the words ‘I am Indiana Jones.’ He continued: “It’s surreal, man.”

Alessandra Mastraonardi, who plays Gina Lombardi in the game, also spoke about her time working with the developers of the game to bring the characters to life. The video also features Tony Todd (Locus), and Marios Gavrilis (Emmerich Voss), all talking about how the Indiana Jones movies were major parts of their lives as they grew up.

The voice actors all go on to discuss why Indiana Jones has continued to be such a popular character. For many, it comes down to the fact that Jones is a pure adventurer that doesn’t have any superpowers, and must largely rely on his own wits to get him out of bad situations.

“He’s not a ninja, he’s not a secret agent,” said Baker. “Every punch he throws is a haymaker. Every fall is just full sail. He’s a very real, grounded kind of hero.”

Gavrilis describes Indiana Jones as “the ultimate adventurer.” He contines: “Flawed, of course, as any good hero is.”

When it comes to actually taking on the mantle of Indiana Jones, Baker said that one of the first things he did when he got the role was try and learn how to use a whip like the titular hero. He said: “I reached out to well-known a stunt performer and co-ordinator, and he says ‘come meet me at this park; if the cops come, and they probably will, let me do the talking.'”

“I got my own whip, and I showed up on set, and they looked at me and asked ‘what’s that,’ and I said ‘that’s my whip,’ and they said ‘no it’s not,'” he continued. “Here’s a rope. This is a safe place and we’re not going to have you using a weapon inside this incredible facility. So I never actually got to use the whip.”

Having originally come out on PC and Xbox Series X/S last year, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is making its way on to the PS5 on April 17. The game is currently available for pre-order, and there’s also a Premium Edition priced at $99.99 that includes the Order of the Giants DLC along with two days of early access to the game.
