FromSoftware Says it’s “Not Really Considering” Elden Ring 2 Right Now

The studio currently has multiple projects in the work, but a sequel to Elden Ring isn't one of them- though president Hidetaka Miyazaki says the IP could certainly grow in the future.

Elden Ring and its expansion Shadow of the Erdtree have both been enjoyed universal critical acclaim, while the base game and DLC have both also performed impressively where sales are concerned, so it’s only natural to assume that developer FromSoftware is going to be keen to strike the iron with a sequel while it’s hot- but that doesn’t seem to be the plan.

Earlier this year, FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that the studio didn’t have any plans in place at the time for an Elden Ring 2, and in a recent interview with IGN Japan (translated by Automaton Media), he reiterated the same, stating that a sequel to the acclaimed open world action RPG isn’t something that FromSoftware is considering right now. “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2,” he said.

That said, Miyazaki went on to add that the Elden Ring IP could still expand in the future, even if a sequel isn’t being worked on right now. “I would like to tell you that we are not ruling out the development of the Elden Ring IP in some form in the future,” he said.

Interestingly, Miyazaki has also confirmed that though an Elden Ring 2 isn’t yet in the works, FromSoftware does have multiple projects currently in the works across a variety of genres. The studio’s parent company Kadokawa Corporation is also currently in talks to be acquired by Sony.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is nominated for Game of the Year at the upcoming The Game Awards, becoming the first expansion to be nominated for the main category in the annual awards show’s history. Elden Ring itself won the category at the 2022 awards.
