While there’s still some time before the April 24 release of turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a live-action movie is in the works.

According to Variety, the movie adaptation of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is produced by developer Sandfall Interactive and Story Kitchen.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of ‘Expedition 33’ to the big screen,” said Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.”

Story Kitchen and Sandfall Interactive are working on directorial and casting decisions. Producing duties are being handled by Elena Sandoval, Timothy Stevenson, Johnson and Goldberg on Story Kitchen’s side of things.

“Partnering with Story Kitchen allows us to expand the universe of ‘Clair Obscur‘ beyond the gaming realm,” said Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche. “Their expertise in storytelling and passion for our vision make them the perfect team to translate our game into a captivating film.”

Story Kitchen has quite a few live-action adaptations of video games under its belt, with its website listing the Sonic the Hedgehog series and Tomb Raider. It also has several upcoming projects, including Dredge, Disco Elysium and It Takes Two.

Sandfall Interactive recently revealed the required hardware for running Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on PC. The requirements are relatively modest, though cranking the settings higher requires more modern hardware.

Broche had previously also spoken about the gameplay system, character mechanics and difficulty options in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Players will have plenty of customisation options in the game, and each character will also feature their own unique mechanics, lending themselves to varying play styles. Aside from PC, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC and Xbox players will also be able to check out the game through Game Pass on day one of release.
